About Jane

I was born in 1972 in West Yorkshire, England. The year when Barbie and the first pocket calculators were a big hit. Puppy Love and Rocket Man were high in the charts, and if you weren’t watching The Godfather or Cabaret, perhaps you were reading Elephants Can Remember or Watership Down. I was lucky and spent my childhood in a loving family environment with my parents, brother, two goldfish and a hamster.

At sixteen, I left school and trained in travel and tourism before changing my career path and retraining to become a Nursery Nurse. Reading has always been part of my life, so the opportunity to encourage early years children to be creative through books and stories was fulfilling. Years later, I finally settled into an administrative role.

After getting married and having two sons, writing became a part of my everyday routine. My eldest, when he reached three years of age, decided he was afraid of the dark. He wanted me to sit with him for the fifteen minutes it took to drift off to sleep, and I, as a busy working mum, was sat twiddling my thumbs, thinking of the chores I could be doing.

I had always wanted to write a novel, but until this opportunity arose, I never gave myself time to achieve a first draft. So, those fifteen minutes every night were not wasted. Instead, I discovered my new writing routine was essential to my day, and, loving this daily dedication, I extended the time slots to pursue this new passion. After self-publishing my first two novels, I am moving toward traditional publishing. Writing requires perpetual learning and having never attended university, I enjoy studying the skill of writing through courses, online resources, practical-based learning, and lots of reading.

I’m lucky enough to have always lived in Yorkshire, close to our breathtaking countryside, and I love it dearly. It is a beautiful part of the world and the perfect place to write.
